Some were inspired by active sports, others took their cue from menswear which was more comfortable and practical to wear than the corseted styles of that time. Learn more about Coco Chanel.

DISCOVER NY FASHION WEEK

Designers around the world show their fall 2012 collections in February and March. Mercedes Benz Fashion week in New York is the first stop. New trends are seen on the runway and on the streets as the fashion world gathers for this exciting event.

Colors for Fall 2012 focus on black; winter white and grey; all shades of brown and tan; and vibrant jewel tones of sapphire, turquoise, purple, orange and red.
Blocks of color and textures are combined in many of the designer collections. Fabrics range from tweedy wools, houndstooth and buffalo checks; unexpected mixes of geometric, floral and animal prints; and lots of leather, metallic and fur. Themes include folkloric and flirty; schoolgirl chic; and sporty and fun. There is plenty of pizzazz and sparkle, too!

Check out some of our favorite collections in this slideshow. Have fun imagining how you can creatively design your own individual look for this fall! Get more behind-the-scenes coverage of fashion week here.
